Tobermore Tetralock block paving is an interlocking paving system which has been used successfully to transform urban spaces and heavily trafficked areas.

Tetralock is manufactured with shift protection on five sides of the block to provide maximum stability. This innovative product incorporates interlocking nibs and a specially profiled bottom surface that claws sand beds, guaranteeing minimal movement.

Let’s explore our top Tetralock projects!

Glanbia HQ, Kilkenny

Client: Glanbia

Products used: Tetralock Mid Grey & Silver, Fusion Mid Grey & Silver

Multinational nutrition group Glanbia transformed the exterior of their Kilkenny headquarters, upgrading the soft and hard landscaping to create a more functional and visually striking layout. The redesign aimed to enhance the connection between parking areas and building entrances, providing a contemporary setting that complements the building’s light-coloured limestone entrance plaza.

To achieve this vision, Glanbia selected Tobermore’s Tetralock and Fusion block paving for their blend of modern aesthetics and practical functionality. These ranges were specifically chosen for their durability and suitability for both pedestrian and vehicular access, offering sleek granite aggregate finishes.

The paving scheme incorporated a striking pattern: Tetralock in Mid Grey with Charcoal lines set against a Silver background, and a similar design using Fusion in Mid Grey with Silver accents. This integrated design ensured a seamless flow across the entire outdoor area, perfectly complementing the light tones of the building’s façade.

Tobermore’s Fusion paving, with its smooth granite aggregate finish, is ideal for contemporary projects, adding vibrancy and elegance. Similarly, Tetralock not only delivers a stylish appearance but also provides exceptional practicality with its interlocking design, making it a robust choice for high-traffic areas.

London Borough of Southwark

Client: Southwark Council

Products used: Tetralock Graphite, Mid Grey & Silver

Southwark Council faced challenges maintaining the attractive paved surfaces in the busy areas of the London borough. To address this, Tobermore recommended Tetralock block paving, a cost-effective and practical solution for high-traffic areas.

David Farnham, Highways Design Quality Manager at Southwark Council, underlined the importance of high-quality streetscapes for the borough’s iconic locations, including London Bridge, Bankside, commenting: “Paved areas at crossings and junctions enhance the area’s appeal and contribute to traffic calming.”

Previously, Southwark relied on natural stone sett surfaces, but these proved costly and difficult to maintain. Seeking a durable and visually appealing alternative, the Council opted for Tetralock from Tobermore.

The paving, specified in Silver, Mid Grey, and Graphite, recreates the natural finish of stone while its large 300x150x100mm format achieves a striking and effective traffic-calming design. David Farnham noted that Tetralock “significantly reduced construction costs compared to rigid stone systems while delivering excellent aesthetics and functionality.”

With this innovative solution, Tobermore helped Southwark Council create durable, attractive streets that meet the expectations of residents and visitors alike.

London Borough of Havering

Client: London Borough of Havering

Products used: Tetralock, Sienna Graphite, Pedesta Charcoal

The London Borough of Havering redeveloped crossing zones on Farnham Road and Hildene Avenue to improve functionality and enhance aesthetics. Tobermore’s block paving products, Tetralock and Sienna, where chosen for trafficked areas and pedestrian zones for their durability and visual appeal.

Daniel Jackson, Engineer at Havering, highlighted the objectives: “We aimed to improve pedestrian access at the Farnham Road/Service Road junction, creating step-free access, narrowing the carriageway, and adding features like seating, bicycle parking, and a more versatile pedestrian-friendly area.”

Tobermore’s Tetralock was specified for its interlocking design, durability, and vibrant colour, which enhances safety by signalling crossings to drivers. Sienna and Pedesta block paving complemented this with their granite-like finishes, smooth surfaces, and ability to create distinctive patterns.

Daniel emphasised why Tobermore was selected: “Their hard-wearing surfaces retain vibrant pigments over time, unlike many alternatives. The products were a superior option.”

Completed in 2017, the project achieved a seamless blend of aesthetics and functionality. Daniel concluded: “I’m very pleased with the result and plan to specify Tobermore products in future phases. I highly recommend them to the construction industry.”
