Tobermore’s Tactile Slabs, part of our Lifestyle paving range, are designed to assist pedestrians who are visually impaired or blind. Tactile paving makes it easier for those with visual impairments to identify road crossing areas and drop kerbs.
Blister slabs can be felt underfoot, helping the partially sighted and blind to distinguish between different types of crossing zones. Blister slabs are available in three colour finishes:
– Red Blister slabs denote controlled crossing zones.
– Buff Blister slabs are used to denote uncontrolled crossing zones.
– Natural Blister slabs may also be used in uncontrolled zones provided it achieves an effective contrast with the surroundings.
Hazard warning slabs alert pedestrians to a hazard that requires caution – for example, at the top and bottom of a flight of stairs. It is recommended that the surface be in a contrasting colour to the surrounding area so as to assist partially sighted people.
Cycleway tactile paving slabs indicate to pedestrians the beginning or end of shared pedestrian & cycle routes which are not separated by different levels. Available in buff or natural.
