Permeable paving provides an effective way to manage surface water at source. Rainwater passes through the joints between permeable block paving or paving slabs into a specially designed permeable sub-base below, where it is stored, filtered and infiltrated into the ground or discharged in a controlled manner. Unlike conventional impermeable surfaces, permeable pavement systems help reduce pressure on drainage infrastructure while supporting the key principles of SuDS.
