Vicarage Gardens

Stockport, Cheshire

Housing

Block Paving

After years of neglect in Vicarage Gardens, several development proposals emerged, ranging from full demolishment of the Vicarage, to completely restoring it into modern apartments. The preferred option involved preserving, reconstructing, and revitalising the current Vicarage.

To ensure the project’s feasibility and enable the full restoration of the area, additional development was required, including constructing a new contemporary extension with apartments as well as new residential buildings. The successful upscaling of the area has resulted in a diverse mixed-use development.

The Challenge.

Find hard landscaping products that would help to preserve the character of Vicarage Green.

The primary focus of this project was to safeguard and restore the current Vicarage to a liveable condition, while preserving as much of the original materials and character as possible. This effort involved close coordination with the conservation officer from Stockport Council. Careful consideration was given to the overall landscaping to ensure that it would harmonise with both the existing structures and the new development. The overall objective was to seamlessly integrate all buildings, new and old, into the surrounding environment.

The Solution.

Tobermore Tegula helped create a development rich in traditional character.

Throughout this project, Tobermore delivered hands-on customer service, ensuring that any challenges encountered could be promptly addressed by the client’s dedicated representative.

Tobermore extended the Hard Landscape Proposal service to Sanderson Borland so that they could efficiently present initial plans to clients and other stakeholders involved. This proposal highlighted the development’s potential, providing all parties with a glimpse of the different paving colours and product options at play.

The Hard Landscape Proposal facilitated crucial decision-making and ultimately influenced the selection of Tobermore’s Tegula in the colour Heather. Tegula Heather played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth integration of both the buildings and landscape within the Vicarage Gardens development. The rumbled and aged appearance of Tobermore Tegula was perfectly suited to preserve the traditional character of the area, while also adding a hint of modernism to effectively integrate the new buildings into the development.

"Tobermore provided a great and detailed service for this project, supporting the challenges of a listed building and conversion. Reviewing various options of different colours, product ranges and materials that would help complement the existing Vicarage but work with the new contemporary additions. Their Hard Landscape Proposal service was great for presenting proposals to the client and key parties in a simple and easy-to-follow manner. To achieve the finished results speaks volumes to the collaboration between all parties involved in this project. Without this, the Vicarage would likely still have been lying empty and decaying further whereas now it is a thriving inclusion in the local community. "
