For this homeowner and her family, demand for the outdoor area was high. With younger children wanting somewhere to play and adults hoping for some space to relax and unwind, a lot of needs had to be met.

“Our existing patio and garden needed some TLC,” she says. “But we weren’t sure what to do with it. The kids needed somewhere to play on their bikes and roller skates, and we wanted somewhere to sit and read a book too.
“Whatever we did, we wanted the space to be easy to maintain and to look great all year round.”
With some pretty specific requirements in mind, the homeowner did some research online first.
“I found the ‘My Favourites’ tool on the Tobermore website to be really useful,” she says. “I created a folder with the images I liked, then shared this with my family so they could look too. I also liked the Paving Creator tool, which helped to see how different paving styles would look in a patio setting.”
Next, she contacted Tobermore direct and arranged a virtual consultation with a landscape designer.
“I found Tobermore’s landscape design service extremely helpful,” she says. “The designer really brought our ideas to life. They made some great suggestions which enhanced the area, too.
“For example, they suggested adding a raised, curved flower bed using Secura Lite walling, which looks really lovely. It’s an area that’s going to provide a colourful focal point all year round.”
Unsure about which paving styles and designs to go for, the family found the designer’s help invaluable.
“We live in the countryside, but our property is very contemporary in style. So we really needed some advice on choosing the right paving to complement our property and setting. The designer was great with this and helped us choose a mix of products and colours to suit the surroundings.”
Our homeowner adds: “In the end, we went for Historic Paving in slate, with Oat Sienna Setts which matched the colour of our house beautifully. The paths are Tegula Bracken which helped to blend the patio with our country setting.”
