Driveway projects: How to choose the perfect driveway for your home’s style

Want a driveway that is really part of your home? Want it to be the first thing guests notice when they arrive to visit? Choosing the perfect driveway to suit your property is a big call.

But don’t worry – that’s where we come in. Whether you live in a traditional townhouse, a modern new build, or a cosy countryside retreat, there’s a driveway for you.

Consider your home’s architecture

  1. Traditional homes
Older homes with brickwork, stone detailing, or period features often look stunning with classic block paving in natural tones. Herringbone patterns, subtle borders, and muted colours maintain charm while offering durability.
  2. Modern properties
Sleek, contemporary houses benefit from bold, minimalist paving choices. Smooth finishes, smart layouts, and contrasting colours can create a striking entrance that aligns with your home’s clean lines.
  3. Cottages and countryside homes
Rustic paving with warmer shades, textures, and the appearance of natural stone enhance the welcoming feel of countryside dwellings. Cobble-style or tumbled finishes can help maintain authenticity while offering modern performance.

Practical considerations

Beyond aesthetics, it’s important to think about:

  1. Traffic and use: Will the driveway host multiple vehicles? Darker tones are more accommodating tyre marks and oil spills.
  2. Complementary products: Kerbs and edging are a perfect finishing touch, separating your driveway from gardens and flowerbeds. Garden Stone walls can make your driveway a standout feature.
  3. Drainage: Permeable driveways are not only eco-friendly but can prevent puddles and ice patches during colder months.

Make your driveway yours

Once you’ve chosen the right paving style for your home, small details can really personalise it to you. Contrasting borders, complementary garden features – and even thoughtful lighting – all can turn a simple driveway into a warm welcome.

Real homeowners. Real transformations.

We love helping homeowners find the perfect driveway to fit seamlessly into their home’s aesthetic. Read what this homeowner from Co. Antrim had to say about how we supported them in their quest for a dream driveway.

“We found Tobermore’s Paving and Walling Managers to be extremely helpful throughout the process. They gave some great advice, which helped me choose the best products for my driveway. The service was fantastic. The designer suggested a layout and border which perfectly complemented the style and colour of my home, which was something I hadn’t considered myself.”
