Retaining Walls

Situated in the historic market town of Shepshed, just on the outskirts of Leicestershire, Buttercup Fields offers a picturesque place to live.

Home buyers know to expect the highest standards and attention to detail when they buy from William Davis Homes. It is no surprise that they have been recognised as a five-star developer for five years in a row by the Home Builders Federation.

Secura Grand from Tobermore offered an aesthetically pleasing Retaining Wall which complemented its surroundings. Upon presentation of block samples, William Davis Homes were convinced it would complement the scheme perfectly.

Following a costing exercise, Secura also offered the most budget-friendly option.

The Challenge

An attractive retaining wall was required which complemented the surrounding natural beauty.

William Davis Homes sought an aesthetically pleasing retaining wall for the boundary of their Buttercup Fields Housing Development.
As the site boundary overlooked a scenic area of natural beauty, it was essential to choose a retaining wall which would suit its surroundings. The neighbouring settling pond is a landmark which local people enjoy visiting and walking around.

The House Builder had considered a standard red brick masonry wall and a Rootlok system but were not convinced on the look. The wall itself would have also proved rather expensive especially due to its scale.

The Solution

Secura Grand from Tobermore offered an aesthetically pleasing Retaining Wall which complemented its surroundings.

Secura Grand is a modern segmental retaining wall solution which features a classic, textured appearance. Upon presentation of block samples, William Davis Homes were convinced it would complement the scheme perfectly. Following a costing exercise, Secura also offered the most budget friendly option.

Secura was easily built to over 3m high in some places and spans for more than 150m in one stretch. It was convenient for William Davis Homes that Secura was compatible with different backfill methods, again offering cost savings. A no-fines Concrete backfill method was used to save space where garages were present. While the cheaper Geogrid reinforced method was used where there were no garages.
Secura proved so effective on the boundary wall that it was subsequently rolled out within the site compound also.

William Davis Homes utilised Secura Grand to create tiered gardens building to a height of 2.5m. The aesthetically pleasing walls are located in the back gardens of housing plots and also feature steps.

"We opted for Secura Grand as it was used widely at the Matlock site. We heard a lot of positive feedback on ease of use. When we enquired with Tobermore, it was available at a very competitive price. When compared to traditional walls and Rootlok (soil-filled hessian bags), Secura won on the basis of looks and cost. Tobermore provided us with professionally indemnified drawings for Secura which came in good time and were easy to follow. Secura looks great and we have received good feedback from the groundworkers installing it. I will definitely use Secura on future schemes, I really like it. The service from Tobermore was very friendly and efficient."
