Tobermore’s Lansdowne facing bricks were key to transforming the Marlmount housing development, delivering a contemporary aesthetic with long-lasting performance. By utilising Tobermore’s free sample wall service, the housebuilder was able to evaluate the visual appeal, ease of installation, and overall build quality of the product in a real-world setting.
Marlmount is a distinguished housing development situated to the south of Dundalk on the Old Dublin Road. Comprising 3, 4 and 5-bedroom homes, it is strategically located near the M1 motorway, which connects Dublin and Belfast.
The homes at Marlmount are designed to maximise living space, providing generous family-sized accommodation with off-street driveways for ample parking. These newly constructed homes combine modern design with high-spec features, creating a comfortable living environment for residents.
The client, Fajon Construction, had traditionally opted for clay brick in many of their previous developments and initially planned to continue with this material at Marlmount. However, they agreed to consider Tobermore facing brick as an alternative.
To evaluate the suitability of this material, the client built three sample panels on-site, allowing them to assess the aesthetics and ease of construction with Tobermore bricks. This hands-on approach helped them make an informed decision about the product’s performance and visual impact.
One key concern was whether Tobermore concrete facing bricks could match the industry benchmark of 20 courses per day. The on-site trials successfully demonstrated that this standard could be met, helping to overcome any misconceptions and proving that Tobermore bricks could deliver on both speed and efficiency.
Following the successful evaluation, Tobermore Lansdowne facing bricks were selected for the Marlmount development. The sample panels played a crucial role in enabling the client to see the product in context, ensuring it met both quality expectations and the desired aesthetic.
The Lansdowne facing brick elevations complemented the render finish elevations of the homes perfectly, adding visual interest and depth while providing a sophisticated contrast that enhanced the architectural design.
Chosen for their distinct texture and excellent performance, Lansdowne facing bricks deliver a contemporary yet timeless look, suitable for both modern and traditional schemes. Available in a range of natural, earthy tones, the Lansdowne bricks offered the perfect balance of style and durability.
In addition, Tobermore’s Hydropave Shannon block paving was specified for the driveways and external spaces. Known for its smooth surface and attractive finish, Shannon paving added to the overall kerb appeal and practicality of the homes.
The combination of Lansdowne facing bricks and Hydropave Shannon block paving created a cohesive and high-quality finish across the development, enhancing both the visual impact and the long-term functionality of the homes’ exteriors.
