As part of Tobermore\u2019s ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have published a library of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).<\/span><\/h3>\n

Tobermore is proud to be first to market<\/strong><\/span> i<\/span>n publishing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our paving, walling and kerb products<\/a>.\u00a0Following a rigorous Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Tobermore can accurately demonstrate the environmental impact of over 400 products.<\/p>\n

What are EPDs?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

An EPD is a document that lays out the environmental performance or impact of a construction product or material over time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

EPDs allow construction industry professionals to compare the environmental impact of different products and materials and make informed decisions about which to choose for their project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, architects and contractors can use an EPD to choose the most sustainable option for a particular project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For us here at Tobermore, it also means we can use the data from an EPD assessment to reduce the impact of our products and deliver ever-more sustainable options for the industry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tobermore EPDs are valid until 2027 and are based on ISO standards (ISO 14025 and EN 15804+A2.).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How is an EPD created?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

An EPD is created in five stages:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Data is collected<\/span><\/b>, including raw material, resource consumption and waste data for each product.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. A lifecycle assessment<\/span><\/b> is conducted.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Background information is collected<\/span><\/b> for the report, giving details about the methodology used for the assessment, any assumptions made and the standards that have been adhered to.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Third-party verification<\/span><\/b> is carried out by an independent verifier, to ensure impartiality, reliability and accuracy.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. The EPD is published<\/span><\/b> into the public domain.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The key factor here is the third-party verification of the EPD, which is a core part of the international standard that defines EPDs: ISO14025.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    At Tobermore, all our EPD certificates are verified by an approved independent verifier before being registered and published on the Irish Green Building Council EPD Portal<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
