North Tyneside Council sought to revamp the Whitley Bay seafront, as part of their coastal regeneration programme.
The programme aimed to transform the area into a hub of activity for people of all ages, with improvements including new seating, surfacing, and shelters.
Attractive hard landscaping was required to create a promenade along the seafront.
Designed to blend with the local landscape, the station features a green sedum roof, soft landscaping as well as bird and bat boxes to support biodiversity.
The fire station was designed with a striking contemporary entrance featuring Tobermore’s Fusion block paving. Fusion is manufactured with sparkling natural granite aggregates and boasts Tobermore’s renowned PrimeTop hard-wearing surface layer.
"Hartlepool Borough Council’s Engineering Design and Management team undertook the role of Principal Designer and Project Manager for the whole of the works, this public realm scheme is part of the wider Central Promenade Coastal Protection Works. The paving design and specification was also undertaken by HBC’s Principal Landscape Architect. Tobermore’s products look fantastic on the upper promenade."
