CPD Permeable Paving

Online CPD: How permeable paving works as a SuDS solution

Tobermore is proud to have partnered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to deliver an online CPD on Permeable Paving as a SuDS solution. ICE is a professional membership body that provides unrivalled support to over 95,000 civil engineer members.

As we seek more sustainable ways to develop our towns and cities, civil engineers are being challenged to work with nature to find greener solutions for urban drainage and flood management. While exciting progress has been made with natural vegetation and green landscaping, there will always be the need for some hard surfacing to create successful communities.

Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS)

Through a Sustainable Urban Drainage system (SuDS) storm water can be absorbed by permeable paving through enlarged joints, which are filled with grit instead of sand which is used in conventional paving, and stored in a special sub base beneath the paving. This acts like a huge tank, and the aggregate that is used for the sub-base filters out most of the pollution that may have been washed off the roads and roofs.

Hydropave Permeable Paving

Tobermore manufacture Hydropave – a permeable paving range that is manufactured with all the aesthetic detail and beauty of the non-permeable ranges but with valuable environmental benefits. Many of our quality permeable paving range can be machine laid, reducing both labour costs and project completion times.

For more information on the Hydropave product styles and finishes available visit the Hydropave page.

This webinar will take place on the 23rd February from 4pm – 5pm

The online session will explore the innovative part that permeable paving can play in sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS). The session will also consider how permeable paving can reduce the risk of flooding and pollution by allowing rainfall to infiltrate the ground naturally, reducing the pressure on already overloaded urban drainage systems.

Attendees will learn about all aspects of permeable paving including:

  • Design stages (concept, developed and technical design)
  • Construction
  • Common challenges
  • Maintenance and adoption
  • Appropriate sectors for permeable paving
