Tobermore Back Rainey’s All Ireland Challenge
Tobermore Concrete will be a major sponsor for Rainey Old Boys Rugby Club for the 2007-08 season, as the South Derry Club look to consolidate their position as one of the top rugby sides in Ulster.
Last year Rainey finished 6th in Division 3 of the AIB All Ireland Leagues, a position that placed them 6th highest finishers amongst the Ulster Clubs competing in the AIL leagues.

Rainey OB won the inaugural All Ireland Junior Cup at Lansdowne Road in April 2006. With Tobermore’s backing Rainey will be hoping for further All Ireland glory in the season ahead.
This season under Willie Anderson, a former Irish captain and an Ulster and Ireland rugby legend, they hope to build on their success over the past couple of seasons and push for promotion to Division2.
The new season has started well for Rainey and the 1st xv caused a major upset on the first Saturday of the new season when they defeated AIL Division 1 side Ballymena at Eaton Park by 35-17, having lead 35-0 at one stage.
This dream start was followed by another victory over Instonians before losing to Ballynahinch. An away win against Banbridge has put Rainey into 2nd place in the Ulster League behind Division 1 giants Dungannon. Announcing the new sponsorship deal at a press conference at Hatrick Park, Bill McGinnis, the Club President expressed his delight that Tobermore would be a main sponsor for the coming season.
“I am delighted that Tobermore will be sponsoring us this season. The Tobermore name is known throughout Ireland and is synonymous with quality and success. Rainey Rugby has similar aspirations. However to achieve our goals we need financial support as well as a strong coaching and management structure. Willie Anderson has put a very strong team in place and with Tobermore’s support we are confident that we can mount a serious challenge this year.”
“Tobermore are finalists in the European Quality Awards, the results of which will be announced at a Ceremony in Athens in October. These are the most prestigious business Awards in Europe and we wish Tobermore further success” stated Bill McGinnis.
David Henderson Tobermore’s, Managing Director, a Club member and former player with Rainey, stated that Tobermore is pleased to be able to support Rainey OB this season.
“There is a strong Rainey connection in Tobermore. Brian Wilson our Sales & Marketing Manager is a committee member and Evan Stewart, a 1st xv member, has joined our marketing team on a year’s placement from Loughborough University” added David Henderson.
“We sell our products throughout Ireland and we have Paving Centres in each of the 4 provinces. The fact that teams from Connaught, Munster and Leinster will be visiting Hatrick Park is an opportunity for us to develop further awareness and brand recognition. We wish Willie and his coaching team much success for the season ahead.”
