European Award Winners Tobermore Prepare for Expansion in GB Market

Tobermore Concrete brought its pioneering Paving and Walling Centre formula to England from the Irish market in May 2006 and since then sales have grown rapidly.  The centre has proved so successful that plans are now in place to further develop the concept with new centres in other parts of England and Scotland.

Tobermore are rapidly replicating the sales success in GB that they have had in Ireland over many years which has helped them to win the European Quality Award in 2007.  The company has joined forces with one of N.Ireland’s top haulier’s, Woodside Haulage who have provided a fleet of liveried lorries to supply Tobermore’s products to a growing list of loyal customers in England and Scotland.

The world-renowned European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) Award was presented to the company at a glittering ceremony in Athens last October ahead of tough competition from the likes of Siemens Engineering, Volkswagen, BMW and TNT.  A second award in recognition of Tobermore’s business results was also presented to the company on the night.  For Tobermore, the awards represented the culmination of more than 10 years of continued improvements, with the emphasis on quality of product and service.

Tobermore’s Managing Director, David Henderson, confirmed that a planned major investment programme is aimed at keeping abreast with increasing sales of Tobermore’s paving and walling products throughout Ireland and Britain.

“Our sales have more than doubled in the past three years alone and the proposed addition of two new state of the art processing units is about ensuring we have the capability not only to meet with today’s demands, but will also give us the ability to meet the future requirements of our aggressive growth strategy in Great Britain” he said.

Mr Henderson also predicted further employment by the company: “In the past two years we have added around 100 jobs and we anticipate increasing this by a further 100 in the next two years. This investment and our recent success in Athens with the European Quality Award is further evidence that manufacturing companies in Northern Ireland can compete with the best in Europe and enable us to service the demanding GB market”.
