First Impressions Count at New Terminal
Paving the Way at Glasgow International Airport
Nearly nine million domestic and international passengers use Glasgow airport each year and they cannot help have been impressed by the new pedestrian walkway that links terminal 1 & 2.
Tobermore supplied all the natural granite paving flags used in the prestigious extension and this has given an up market feel to the scheme and created a very strong first impression with passengers arriving and departing to and from the airport.

The main contractor on the Glasgow airport extension was Raynesway Construction, a division of Balfour Beattie. The project was designed by Hyland Edgar Driver architects and project architect Mike Martyn had worked with Tobermore products on other major schemes including the massive Spencer Dock project in Dublin.
“We had been very impressed with the quality of the natural granite which Tobermore source in India and we all felt that the Rainbow Bash colour was perfect for this scheme. We used this colour in combination with Tobermore Rosso Red granite flags and the combination has worked superbly,” says Mike.
Since the project was completed Tobermore’s business in Scotland has grown considerably and the sales team has been able to highlight the extension at Glasgow airport and a number of other impressive developments supplied by Tobermore to new customers.

“It was a highly prestigious contract for us to be awarded shortly after we began to develop our business in Scotland and is one of a number of prestigious schemes that we have completed in Scotland and England over the past two years,” says Mark.
Other projects recently completed include;

The natural stone products used at the airport were sourced through Archean Granite and their European distributers Northern Irish Company Kane Granite and the design team were aware of the very strong ethical trading practices which Archean Granite provide.

Mike Martyn, the architect for the new terminal visited the granite quarries in the Bangalore region of Southern India, and took part in the opening of the new school which Tobermore have helped finance.
In recent years Tobermore has assisted Archean Granite with the development of a new school in the Bangalore region of Southern India where much of the Granite is sourced.
