Machine Lay Paving in Residential Schemes
Tobermore Concrete pioneered the mechanical laying of paving brick in Ireland and in recent years thousands of m2 of paving have been installed by machines. Until recently most of the projects had been large car parks, factories, warehouses, distribution centres and docks areas. The interlocking blocks used included: Toberloc, Pedesta and Tobermore's permeable paving block-Hydropave.
In the past year a number of contractors have started to lay some of Tobermore's other paving products by machine in residential situations. Shannon and Tegula, two of Tobermore's most popular and visually attractive paving products can now be machine layed and Brian Reilly of Reilly Paving, Duleek, Co. Meath, has been quick to identify the opportunity and benefits to his business.

60mm Tegula has been installed mechanically in 2 developments in Co.Dublin and Co. Meath and Brian Reilly has been delighted with the results. "We put down 3000m2 of Tegula at McGarrell Reilly Home Ltd's site in Lusk and we are now laying Bracken Tegula in the same way at their new site, The Steeplechase in Ratoath. We have been able to lay more paving with fewer men in less time and this has brought obvious benefits."

McGarrell Reilly's Director, also called Brian Reilly, has been equally pleased with the paving to the parking bays and courtyards. "The Tegula product looks great and to be honest we don't mind how the paving is put down. However time is money and because of the speed of the process, deadlines have been met. This is very important to us."
With Labour costs set to rise and new manual handling legislation likely to impact increasingly on the construction industry, it is likely that many more progressive laying contractors will be looking at machines to help them develop their business.
Tobermore have a number of machines which are available to Contractors that wish to try out machine lay and any contractor wishing to do so should contact their area sales executive.
