Designer's Corner

Good Planning is the key to a successful design

When embarking on a landscape design project, it is vital to first of all make a list of what you want from the space. Take a walk around and look at what is there already, the chances are most of these thing will have to remain, in one form or another. For example

·         Dust bins

·         Compost bin

·         Coal bunker, fuel storage

·         Clothes line

·         BBQ

·         Patio heater

·         Dog house

·         Sand box, swing & slides, trampoline

·         Gas tanks, oil tank

Your next job is have a think about all the things that bug you about the space you already have and what you would like to get from your new garden. For example

·         Not enough space on your patio, must be bigger

·         Not enough seating

·         Seating area doesn’t get enough sun light, or not enough privacy, or is too windy, maybe you need to change its location

·         Too much maintenance

·         Not enough storage

·         Nothing to look at during the winter months

Armed with this information, you or your designer will have a far greater chance of achieving a design most suited to your requirements, as well as being  a beautiful space.

Remember our homes and everything in them, aesthetically pleasing as they may be, serve a function. Your outdoor space must be practical, this future proofs your design and ensures that the effort you go to and the money you spend will be enjoyed and cherished for many sunny afternoons to come.
